We really love seeing restaurants that stand out and make a statement through their appearance. Promoting one’s business with the help of great design seems to be a real goal these days and we couldn’t be happier about it. Green Bistro is a the result of a collaboration between Siddik Erdogan & Jorn Frohlich and is located in the  Lengermann & Trieschmann department store, in Osnabruck, Germany. The place showcases highly modern arrangements and features a surrealist game of lines and light. Found on Homedit, the small informal restaurant consists of white chairs and tulip tables that make a lovely contrast with an imposing ceiling, which seems inspired by sci-fi movies. All in all, we imagine the visual effects this place offers are the main point of attraction when it comes to the clients’ loyalty. Opera houses must be designed on a dramatic and grand scale. They are in fact, meant to hold and carry out the giant, booming voices of performers to the audience. If you’ve ever been to an opera, you have known the feeling of being overwhelmed – overwhelmed by the expansive architecture, the illustrious and sumptuous design, and the titanic voices radiating from the stage. It is difficult not to be inspired. That is the effect these opera houses had on photographer David Leventi, whose collection of snapshots capture the grandeur of it all. Perhaps the color palettes, gold-gilded ceilings and ostentatious balconettes, may inspire our audience as well, but with design. Perhaps the rich reds may spark off some ideas at home?

We recently ran across this unusual passenger lounge design completed by SHH Architects in Biggin Hill Airport, London (for private aviation group Rizon Jet). The project was developed on two levels and has a surface of 478 square meters (first floor), plus an attic space of 186 square meters. The customer’s brief implied a 6-star hotel lobby with a comfortable lounge feel: “The idea was to create a space where people want to spend time,” asserted architect Guy Matheson. This was achieved by using a simple and calm color palette, luxurious finishes, a significant amount of custom-made furniture, and a strong emphasis on comfort and convenience. The main space is a dramatic double-height volume, which is divided into two rooms with different treatments and variations in the levels of privacy so that customers can easily find an enjoyable space while waiting for their air fare.  [Photo credits: Andy Spain Photography]

It’s about time these Hyperrealistic Paintings took the stage. Created by Tos Kostermans, a talented Netherlands-based artist – these remarkable paintings display the modern world as seen by an artist with a sense of humour. Painted in a combination of acrylics and oils, the art pieces were gathered in a collection named “Bold and Beautiful” in which “pretty women are playing the leading role and in which the man is often a minor role. Success, politics, prosperity, crisis, jealousy, in short, everything in life we are facing is addressed in the pictures.” Featuring Silvio Berlusconi, Mr. Creosote, Jack Nicholson, Tiger Woods, Scarlett Johannson, Keith Richards and others, most of the pieces in the collection are inspired by “the life in Puerto Banus, a small harbour village in the south of Spain where Tos has his studio.” The natural look and lifelike yet vivid colours used by the artist create a highly realistic feeling. Tos Kostermans‘ creativity is based on his surrounding world:”His inspiration for the diverse subjects of his other paintings, comes from his surroundings and his own awareness of life around him.” As the artist himself says, “it is all about life and humoristic situations.”
