The Gallery House in San Francisco, California represents the merger of art and lifestyle. It is an art-loving couple’s paradise flooded with natural light. Sheltering a semi-public art gallery and a residence for two avid art collectors, the Gallery House displays a modern representation of how art should be cared for. Each space represents the inhabitants’ love for artistic expressions from exclusively female contemporary artists. The street-level gallery displays personal collections and collections of friends. The next two floors displaying art and the penthouse sculpture garden are connected to the private spaces allowing the visitors to experience even the lifestyle of the inhabitants. An open floor plan allows art-interested people to capture bits of the art world in both the public and the private sense. The envelope of the house protects it from the cold fog, but also opens it up to sun and breeze. Skylights draw natural light in and offer glimpses of the night sky. Ogrydziak Prillinger Architects really outdone themselves by creating this architectural hybrid, haven’t they?

We’ve seen more and more designs lately that take advantage of an area often neglected. Hörnstol is a highly original chair designed by Anton Björsig especially for the corner. And if you happen to have some matching wooden furniture items around the room, this could be an inspired idea. You might reply that this is not the most practical design in the world and that its size makes it impossible for it to be carried around the house like a common chair. But this is not really an issue to consider, since this product was developed with a precise home location in mind. We can not help but wonder how would two people communicate with each other while seating on this odd furniture piece. All in all, this concept did not leave us indifferent. We appreciate its creativity and are curious to see your reactions.

Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design have completed Mlicki Offices, a complex architecture project located in Ohio, USA. According to the architects, “the goal of this 6800 square foot commercial office renovation project was to recycle a pair of older, historic structures, giving them a new identity and purpose while retaining their historic character, an important part of the brand of Mlicki strategic design firm. After a careful and thorough analysis of the options of renovation or rebuilding, JBAD helped the owners determine that reshaping the existing structures and making selective deletions and additions would best achieve a balance between old and new and an efficient and sustainable reuse of these buildingsThe structures are connected with a visually and functionally unifying entry and atrium, a fractured spherical void carved from the center, and sections of the roofs raised to increase interior daylight and space“. The result is a modern reorganization, with many of the initial details kept intact. How do you find this type of architecture approach?
