Barcode House was designed by David Jameson Architect and is located Washington, D.C. The residence gets its name from an interesting exterior design detail consisting a series of horizontal lines which resemble a giant commercial barcode. Here is more from the architects: “Barcode House explores juxtapositions between the heavy and light and the old and the new. The work is formed by positioning the project's diverse pressures into a unique situational aesthetic. Brittle masonry walls of the existing Washington, DC row house governed that the addition be engineered as a freestanding structure. Site constraints dictated a vertically oriented spatial solution. The client's desire for transparent living space generated the opportunity to create an integrated solution for lateral force requirements. Structural steel rods within a glass window wall are aligned with datum lines of the neighboring building elevations. A stucco circulation tower anchors the living space to the existing row house“. SPG Architects were the ones who designed this residence located in Pawling, New York. Featuring 3,330 square feet, the house sitting on 5 acres was built as a weekend or vacation home for a couple living in New York. An interesting and powerfully relaxing feature is the 2-story bedroom space that “seamlessly link with the main living areas, which contain living, dining, and kitchen functions.  A dining terrace and a private master bedroom suite garden are defined as exterior rooms by concrete half walls that are extensions of the main house form. The gestural roofline slopes upward from the closed front facade to the more open rear facade and provides a sense of soaring relief as the occupant moves from the entry court to the expansive views beyond.” The outside space in the back garden features a pool and plenty of space for sunbathing and excellent entertaining. With low natural stone walls that decorate the green lawn, the garden looks like the owner’s little hillside.

House To Catch The Tree was designed by studio Berranger & Vincent Architectes and is located in Nantes, France. The residence has a total surface of 1,377 square feet (around 128 square meters) and its structure features three levels. The architecture plans of the building aimed at taking advantage of a beautiful chestnut tree situated nearby: "In the heart of Nantes, the house settles on a narrow and steep site. Its location and its size result from regulatory constraints and topography: an old chestnut listed in classified wooden area, a sharp drop, a maximum height of 6m down the roof and 10m up, two parking lots. The first floor hosts the double height living space, which extends to the garden. Facing the back of the house, the chestnut tree creates a permanent interaction with the inhabitants, plays on the ease of use, light (thermal control over the seasons)."
